process

step by step

Initial pencil sketch

Each piece starts out with a blank sheet of high quality 300gsm watercolour paper. No tracing, no grids, just a hand drawn pencil sketch using a lifetime of experience to capture the subject.

Base wash

The basic proportional elements are then picked out - wheels, ground and glasshouse.

The finishing touches

The final part is going around with a Faber Castell Polychromos pencil to pick out the details.

ABOUT ME

I’ve been an automotive designer at McLaren for over 11 years and been instrumental in some of their most iconic designs including the P1 and 720S.

In doing so, I’ve taken inspiration from many things but being a classic car addict, I am fascinated by the design icons of the past. Painting them allows me to really understand and appreciate the delicate balance of proportion and lines as well as their idiosyncrasies.

I hope you enjoy the art as much as I enjoyed creating it!
